Orthodox Christian Penfriends Club to close
The Orthodox Christian Penfriends Club has been administered by the Orthodox Society of St Nicholas of Japan, an Orthodox mission society based in southern Africa. In 1999 the late Archbishop of Johannesburg and Pretoria, His Eminence Metropolitan Ioannis, asked that the Society of St Nicholas of Japan be closed, and as a result the penfriends club was closed. His Eminence Metropolitan Ioannis made an appointment to discuss this further, but unfortunately he became ill and died before the meeting could take place
Why the penfriends club has to close
When the penfriends club started, it was administered by the Society of St Nicholas of Japan. This was easy, because it could use the Society's administrative infrastructure - such as its postal address, and the Society paid for the printing of membership forms etc. The Society existed to promote Orthodox Christian mission, and this seemed to be one way in which it could help.
With the Society's operations being suspended, however, it is no longer possible to do this.
If you are not an Orthodox Christian, or if you are not particularly interested in correspondence with Orthodox Christians, there are other pen friends resources on the Web:
Perhaps you are looking for someone to talk to, but what if someone is liiking for you?
